James works on a number of pathosystems, focusing on high-throughput protoplast systems  to screen multiple Pattern Recognition (PRR) and Nucleotide-Binding/Leucine Rich Repeat (NLR) receptors to identify and match defence responses against pathogen effectors. He enables the high-capacity throughput by ensuring consistency.
