Tony Gathungu

Tony Gathungu is a senior executive with over 20 years of global experience spanning agribusiness, sustainable development, and strategic business development sectors. Currently, Tony serves as the Chief Growth Officer at CGIAR’s Sustainable Farming Program, leading efforts to scale science-based innovations, forge strategic partnerships, and mobilize investments aimed at accelerating practical, data-driven agricultural solutions. His work directly supports smallholder farmers across the Global South, helping them adapt to climate challenges and building sustainable, resilient livelihoods.

Previously, Tony held key leadership roles at (the former) Syngenta Foundation for Sustainable Agriculture, Seeds2B Africa, and Bayer Crop Science (formerly Monsanto), spearheading initiatives in seed systems, food security, and sustainable agriculture. He also held commercial leadership roles at Pactiv Evergreen in the US, managing strategic accounts and national sales growth.

Tony is passionate about leveraging collaborative partnerships and innovative business models to deliver impactful, sustainable outcomes for farming communities in the Global South.
